Mission Statement - Biology

The mission of Biology is to thoroughly train students in the basic areas of biology at the organismal, organ\system, tissue, cellular, and molecular levels. This training prepares our graduates for successful entry and achievement into graduate schools and professional schools of medicine, veterinary medicine, optometry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, pharmacy and medical laboratory science. As a service for students fulfilling their central curriculum science requirements in biology, our purpose is to relate general biological principles to the non-science major with the intent of igniting interest in the sciences. Biology seeks to help create a community of learning and free inquiry, presenting a thorough academic engagement in which teacher and students work together to integrate liberal arts and career education leadership and service, faith and learning.

Mission Statement - Chemistry, Physics, and Pre-Engineering

The mission of Chemistry, Physics and Pre-Engineering is to provide science students with excellent preparation for their lives and ministries after graduation from Louisiana Christian University, whether it is direct entry into the work force, graduate school in chemistry, or medical or other professional school. We accomplish this by providing rigorous coursework containing essential content on the chemical and physical properties of matter, with instruction that emphasizes laboratory experience, problem solving and critical thinking.

Our mission also includes courses in Chemistry and Earth Science for non-science majors which inform students of the processes of science and the application of scientific thinking to a wide variety of issues, thus preparing them to be well-informed citizens and stewards of the created realm.

Description - Chemistry

The curriculum of Chemistry is designed to give maximum flexibility for several types of students. The person interested in pre-professional programs related to medicine, high school or college teaching, industrial employment or a general background in chemistry will find courses adapted for such interest.

Mission Statement - Math

Mathematics is deeply rooted in the liberal arts education as one of the traditional disciplines, and remains the backbone for many areas of study, including the sciences, computer technology, engineering, and the social sciences. The mission of Mathematics is to provide excellent training which challenges and empowers our students to be lifelong mathematical thinkers. We strive to prepare our majors and minors for graduate work, for teaching, or for entering the work force.

As a component of the Central Curriculum, Mathematics teaches basic mathematics coursework designed to foster critical thinking skills through problem solving and to provide foundational math skills for everyday life.

Description - Math

Mathematics offers a wide variety of courses in service to students in many disciplines. We provide general education courses in mathematics for all students, general physics for science and math majors, minors in mathematics for students in many majors, and a rigorous undergraduate curriculum in mathematics.
