Visual arts are a necessary and vital part of contemporary society. The Louisiana College Art Department trains students to have a positive Christian impact on society by providing a serious study of the visual arts in all its forms and contexts so that they may more fully dialogue with the professional art world. A series of studio, lecture and seminar courses provide a learning environment for students which nurtures their technical and philosophical skills in a distinctively Christian and academically rigorous environment. These studies develop the aptitudes within students which prepare them for either graduate school or entering directly into the art and design marketplace.

Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) is the traditional liberal arts degree. The B.A. degree provides artistic and design training while allowing a breadth of study which is indicative of the liberal arts tradition. The Louisiana College Arts department offers B.A. degrees in Studio Art with a focus in Painting and Drawing or Ceramics, and a B.A. degree in Graphic Design. All B.A. degrees in Studio Art require 55 hours in major studies.

The Bachelor of Arts in K-12 Education, Art degree is designed to prepare students for careers as professional art educators, informed by the Christian faith, in the K-12 environment. The BA in K-12 Education, Art provides a rounded art training with a grounding in art history along with the educational training needed to produce effective teachers.Students pursuing this degree must also satisfy courses in the education department as well as all certification courses required by the State of Louisiana.

Minors

The Louisiana College Department of Art offers minors in Studio Art, Graphic Design, and Web Design for students who have an interest in Art but are majoring in another field of study.

Additional Requirements

All entering students are required to participate in an LCAD orientation prior to and during their first week of classes at Louisiana College. Students are also expected to attend all gallery openings and lectures held by the department. Additionally, students are expected to participate in regional fieldtrips and are encouraged to participate in national and international trips held by LCAD.

Graduation requirements from LCAD include passing Sophomore and Junior Review courses, normally held in the spring semester.
