Fields of Study

Within each degree program, students may select coursework leading to concentrations, majors, minors, or specializations in a variety of academic fields. While the minimum credit hours for each program has been established, particular programs may require additional course work. These specific requirements are detailed in the degree descriptions.

Concentration: A concentration consists of a program of study of at least 45 semester hours which includes a major and a specified minor or at least 15 hours from a specified group of allied courses related in a logical manner to each other and/or to the major.
Major: A major consists of a minimum of 30 semester hours in a subject area, excluding courses applied to Central Curriculum requirements. Students enrolled in a major program must select a minor.
Minor: A minor consists of a minimum of 15 semester hours in a subject area.
Specialization: A specialization consists of a minimum of 10 semester hours in a subject area. These 10 hours are included in a major or concentration in order to focus the degree toward a certain field of study.
